SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is placed in Class 2A, Region 7 of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s draft football alignment for the 2027 season.
In the draft alignment, Magoffin County, Breathitt County, Martin County and Prestonsburg comprise Class 2A, Region 7.
Currently, Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8.
The alignment for the 2027 high school football season will be finalized at a later time.
Magoffin County is in the process of hiring a new head coach. Coach John DeRossett announced his retirement earlier in the month.
The Hornets compiled a 3-7 record in the 2025 high school football season.
Magoffin County will begin preseason practice in July, following the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period.
The draft alignment for Class 2A follows.

Region 1 – Caldwell County, Fort Campbell, Mayfield, Todd County Central, Trigg County.
Region 2 – Edmonson County, Hancock County, McLean County, Owensboro Catholic.
Region 3 – Clinton County, Green County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Somerset.
Region 4 – Bethlehem, Danville, Kentucky Country Day, Washington County, Western.
Region 5 – Beechwood, Bishop Brossart, Gallatin County, Owen County, Walton-Verona.
Region 6 – Jackson County, Lewis County, Morgan County, Powell County, West Carter.
Region 7 – Breathitt County, Magoffin County, Martin County, Prestonsburg.
Region 8 – Belfry, Knott County Central, Leslie County, Pike County Central, Shelby Valley.
