WEST LIBERTY — Magoffin County plated a half dozen runs but it wasn’t enough as Morgan County won 13-6 on Tuesday, May 5.
Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 9-10.
Morgan County finished strong, manufacturing six runs over its last two at bats.
Ian Havens started on the mound for Morgan County and earned the win. Havens pitched the first four innings and recorded four strikeouts.
Closing out the game on the mound for Morgan County, Grayson Hampton pitched the last three innings and struck out two Magoffin County batters.
Evan Reed started on the mound for Magoffin County and took the loss. Reed pitched one and two-thirds innings and logged two strikeouts.
Following Reed, Aiden Carty and Hunter Arnett each pitched in relief for the Hornets. Carty pitched two and two-thirds innings and struck out one Morgan County batter. As part of another relief appearance, Arnett pitched one and two-thirds innings and logged three strikeouts.
Morgan County scored 13 runs on 14 hits. Havens (two hits, one RBI), Hampton (two hits, one RBI), Alex Lee (two hits, three RBIs), Cooper Fleming (three hits, two RBIs), Hunter Cantrell (two hits, one RBI), Conner Fleming (two hits) and Isaac Campbell (one hit, two RBIs) each aided Morgan County offensively. Both Lee and Cantrell doubled.
Magoffin County scored six runs on eight hits. Reed (one hit), Arnett (one hit), Brayden Bailey (two hits, three RBIs), Mason Peck (two hits), Chance Risner (one hit, two RBIs) and Aden Montgomery (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Hornets.
Magoffin County suffered the loss after defeating Morgan County 11-7 in a game played in Salyersville on Friday, April 17.
