SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit West Carter for its fourth game in the 2026 high school football season.
The Hornets notched a win over the Comets one season ago. Magoffin County prevailed in the two high school football teams’ last meeting, outlasting West Carter 18-13 on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.
The Hornets and Comets met in Salyersville last season.
Both Magoffin County and West Carter are 1-2.
Magoffin County has dropped games to Rowan County and Perry County Central, a pair of much-improved high school football teams. In between its two losses, Magoffin County notched a win over Floyd Central, another improved prep gridiron squad.
West Carter has dropped games to Lewis County and Russell. In between its two losses, West Carter posted a win over Fairview.
The additional opponents remaining on Magoffin County’s current schedule are Winfield (W.Va.), Estill County, Powell County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County.
Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. Head coach Nathan Perkins guides the Hornets.
The additional opponents remaining on West Carter’s current schedule are East Carter, Paintsville, Jackson County, Breathitt County, Morgan County and Rowan County.
West Carter competes in Class 2A, District 6. Head coach Daniel Barker guides the Comets.
The Magoffin County-West Carter game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. in Olive Hill.
