Hornets making strides through offseason workouts

SALYERSVILLE — The Magoffin County football program carried momentum into Spring Break.

Under the direction of head coach John DeRossett, the Hornets completed their second cycle of conditioning on Wednesday, April 6. DeRossett took over the Magoffin County football program in early-January.

“We have been working hard in the weight room and on our footwork,” said DeRossett. “After Spring Break, we will get outside and start doing more movement.

We just tell them to win the day and focus on what we can control. Being here every workout, giving great effort, encouraging their teammates and improving each day are our top priorities right now. We are all given the same amount of time and it is critical that we use ours effectively. The school and community care about the young people, which is great. We have a nice facility. So, we just need to take care of business each day and things will be fine.”

The Magoffin County football team will be active throughout the summer.

“We have a busy summer planned and several camps scheduled for 7 on 7 after the KHSAA Dead Period,” added DeRossett. “During those camps, we’ll be able to get on college campuses and see things.”

The Magoffin County football team will resume offseason workouts after Spring Break, returning to the weight room on Monday, April 18.

The Hornets will open preseason practice in July.
