Lady Hornets fall to Paintsville in district tournament

PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County scored first but couldn’t maintain its early momentum as Paintsville prevailed 8-5 in the semifinals of the 57th District Softball Tournament at Johnson Central High School on Tuesday, May 24.

The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the 57th District Softball Tournament. Magoffin County exited the 2022 high school softball season 10-11.

After notching the win, Paintsville (13-15) advanced to the 57th District Softball Tournament title game.

Laney Bledsoe earned the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers.

Bledsoe allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while recording 11 strikeouts over seven innings.

Jaden Williams took the loss in the circle for the Lady Hornets. Williams allowed eight runs on seven hits and one walk while recording four strikeouts over six innings.

Paintsville shook off a slow start to claim the win, scoring eight runs on 11 hits.

Bledsoe (three hits, one RBI), Ashley Wells (two hits, one RBI), Chessa Collins (two hits, one RBI), Maggie Music (two hits), Zoey Jordan (one hit, one RBI), Molly Music (one hit) and Mattie Ratliff (one RBI) produced at the plate for Paintsville in the win.

Williams (two hits), Scarlett McCarty (two hits), Jaylynn Lafferty (one hit, one RBI) and Katie Howard (one hit, one RBI) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense in the district tournament game. Howard doubled for Magoffin County in the season-ending loss.

Paintsville advanced to meet crosstown rival Johnson Central in the 57th District Softball Tournament title game.
