Lady Hornets edge Breathitt County, 45-44

SALYERSVILLE — Notching its second straight win in the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season, Magoffin County edged Breathitt County 45-44 on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Magoffin County shot 33.3 percent (15-of-45) from the field. The Lady Hornets connected on two of 12 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County drained 13 of 32 free throws and outrebounded Breathitt County 41-31.

Recording a double-double, Angel Mullis scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Delivering another double-double for Magoffin County, Karah Lafferty scored 13 points and claimed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The additional scorers for Magoffin County in the win were Jaylee Reed (six points), Macy Williams (five points), Maddie Salyer (four points) and Emily Sluss (three points).

Aiding Magoffin County inside, Salyer grabbed nine rebounds.

Breathitt County shot only 28.8 percent (17-of-59) from the field.

The Lady Cats connected on six of 29 three-point field goal attempts.

Breathitt County drained four of 11 free throw attempts.

Riley Bush scored a game-high 16 points and secured eight rebounds to lead the Lady Cats.

In addition to Bush’s team-leading performance, Maddie Haddix added 12 points and eight rebounds for Breathitt County in the girls’ high school basketball game.

The other scorers for Breathitt County in the matchup were Emily Neace (seven points), Kaylea Ritchie (four points), Alexia Combs (three points) and Brenley Gross (two points).

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Breathitt County for a game in the second half of the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season on Thursday, Feb. 2.
