Magoffin County defeats Phelps in three innings

PHELPS — Delivering a dominant performance, Magoffin County defeated Phelps 19-1 in three innings on Saturday, April 12.

Magoffin County improved to 3-6 after registering the win.

Visiting Magoffin County set the tone early and pulled away to win convincingly in the non-district game.

Pitcher Ava Hensley paced Magoffin County defensively, pitching a no-hitter and earning the win in the circle. Hensley recorded six strikeouts over three innings. The Magoffin County hurler threw 59 pitches.

Magoffin County scored 19 runs on 18 hits. Abby Barnett (three hits, four RBIs), Jaycie Wells (three hits, three RBIs), Katie Carty (three hits, two RBIs), Kailyn Arnett (two hits, two RBIs), Baylee Hatfield (two hits, one RBI), Macy WIlliams (two hits), Maci Minix (one hit, two RBIs), Kiley Lemaster (one hit, one RBI) and Bella Trusty (one hit) each produced offensively for Magoffin County in its convincing victory.

Showing power at the plate, Barnett homered. In another strong individual performance, Wells doubled twice and tripled once.

Barnett homered for the third time in the 2025 high school softball season.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Phelps for a game in the second half of the 2025 highs school softball season on Saturday, May 3.
