BREAK-IN ENDS IN 2 ARRESTS

SALYERSVILLE – Two people were arrested last Wednesday after allegedly breaking into a residence, with the whole incident caught on video.

According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Lafferty received a call on February 1 just before 5 p.m. reporting someone was breaking into a residence on Adams Lane in Salyersville.

When police arrived, Jeffery L. Marshall, 49, of East Maple St., and Virginia Gambill, 42, of Elm Street, were at their car outside the residence, with Gambill in the car and Marshall standing outside the car holding what police believed to be a deadbolt in his hand. When he saw police, Gambill reportedly threw the deadbolt, got into his car and locked the doors.

Police gave the pair several commands to exit the vehicle, but they did not comply, and Deputy Lafferty busted the driver’s side window out, unlocked the doors and helped the two out of the vehicle.

According to police reports, the two started cursing and fighting police, but they were detained and taken to Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

Police retrieved a video that reportedly shows the two taking a crowbar and a hammer to the front door. The video, paired with witness statements, police believe they entered the residence for approximately 10 minutes.

At press time, both are still being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, facing the following charges: second-degree burglary, resisting arrest, menacing, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Preliminary hearings in their felony cases are set for February 13 at 9:15 a.m. at the Magoffin County Justice Center.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
