MAGOFFIN COUNTY – Over $100,000 was raised for local nonprofit organizations via this year’s virtual Community Day.
The 18th Annual Magoffin County Community Day was held virtually, again, this year, due to concerns of the community spread of COVID-19. The Community Foundation encouraged the participating nonprofit groups to hold fundraising events to raise money, with Magoffin County Community Foundation Chair Scotty B. Patrick agreeing to match the funds raised up to $35,000.
In total, the participating nonprofit groups raised $55,721.50 and $12,642.22 was donated to the Good Giving Campaign. With Magoffin County
Community Foundation Chair Scotty B. Patrick’s promised matching funds, a whopping $103,363.72 went straight to Magoffin County’s nonprofit groups.
For the past 18 years, Magoffin County Community Day has been instrumental in helping local nonprofits and civic groups raise funds for the countless good things they do in the community, raising over $1.4 million in total since it began. Community Day usually brings in approximately $80,000 to $85,000 each year for local nonprofits, many of which depend on that money to keep operating each year.
In addition to the funds raised, Middle Fork Fire Department also earned a $1,000 bonus by raising the most money, collecting $14,477 through raffles, luncheons and more.
Checks went out last week to the participating organizations.
