Darlene Kay Cole Wireman

Darlene Kay Cole Wireman age 55 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, November 09, 2021 at her home. She was born September 21, 1966 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late Garland Cole and the late Phyllis Dora Dawson Cole.

Darlene attended Magoffin County High School and completed Barber College in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Later, she served her apprenticeship in Paintsville, Kentucky to Joyce and Darren Hensley at their shop “Head Over Heels.” She established her freestanding barber shop – “Guy’s and Doll’s Hair Salon” – in 1997. She dedicated her life to her craft and continued education year after year at symposiums to keep on-trend with cuts and colors. Her clients were not customers but friends and her talents are heralded by many equal parts hair and therapy.

Beautiful things grew in the paths she walked. She loved her husband, mother and children without concept of measure, teaching them from the beginning “you are no better than anyone else,” and to always be a friend to those who are lonely. Her gardens at her home are lush with dahlias, hydrangeas, roses, and wildflowers pollinated by the beehives maintained on the property. She always offered food and shelter to wayward animals. She will be missed by her poodle, Dora, her grand-pup, Oscar, her indoor cats, Crush and Felix, her porch cats, the legendary dog Luna, and her 6 grand-pets. Her miniature schnauzer, Pebbles, and countless beloved animal companions greeted her from across the rainbow bridge.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Wireman, one son, Wesley Ryan Cole, two daughters, Amber Nicole Williams (Kara) Wireman, Allyssa Noel Wireman, two brothers, Donnie (Tonya) Dawson, Johnnie Mike (Sherry) Cole, one sister, Garlana (Wayne) Howard, and three grandchildren. Darlene was saved and baptized at Far Middle Fork.

Darlene was a shining light in this world. Echoes of her contagious laugh and smile can be found in treasured memories of her. There are no words that capture how much Darlene will be deeply missed by family and friends. Her loved ones resolve to honor the memory of Darlene by practicing humility and kindness paid-forward.

Funeral services for Darlene were conducted Sunday, November 14, 2021 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Arnett Cemetery at Swampton, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested contributions please be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

“Come to Dust”

Spirit, rehearse the journeys of the body
that are to come, the motions
of the matter that held you.
Rise up in the smoke of palo santo.
Fall to the earth in the falling rain.
Sink in, sink down to the farthest roots.
Mount slowly in the rising sap
to the branches, the crown, the leaf-tips
Come down to earth as leaves in autumn
to lie in the patient rot of winter.
Rise again in spring’s green fountains.
Drift in sunlight with the sacred pollen
to fall in blessing.
All earth’s dust
has been life, held soul, is holy.

By Ursula K. Le Guin
