GATLINBURG, Tenn. — The field is set for the 2023 Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, which will be held in December.
Magoffin County is among the boys’ high school basketball teams registered for the 2023 Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic.
The Hornets will compete in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic for the second straight season. Magoffin County won two of three games in the 2022 Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, defeating Wren (S.C.) and James River (Va.) before losing to Livingston Academy (Tenn.).
The 2023 Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic is slated to be held Dec. 20-22 and feature teams from several different states.
The boys’ high school basketball teams registered for the 2023 Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic are Magoffin County, Archbishop Shaw (La.), Betsy Layne, Cascade (Tenn.), Chattanooga Christian School (Tenn.), Cumberland County, Eastside (S.C.), First Baptist Academy (Tenn.), Floyd Central, Gatlinburg-Pittman (Tenn.), George Wythe (Va.), Harvest Prep (Ohio), Hazard, Ingomar (Miss.), Knott County Central, Landrum (S.C.), Lanier Christian Academy (Ga.), Letcher County Central, Livingston Academy (Tenn.), Morgan County, Muhlenberg County, Notre Dame (Tenn.), Pineville, Ridgeview (Va.), Russell County, St. Joseph Central Catholic (W.Va.), Warren County (Tenn.), Webster County, Westmoreland (Tenn.), Williamsburg, Wilson Central (Tenn.) and Wise Central (Va.).
Magoffin County will finalize and release its schedule for the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season at a later time.
Under the guidance of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County is due to return four of its five starters from the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County is the reigning 2A, Section 8 Champion. Following an overtime loss to Paintsville in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2022-23 season 16-11.
The Hornets will open preseason practice in mid-October.
