Fire destroys home on Burning Fork

BURNING FORK – A structure fire was reported late Thursday night, January 19, on Jim Arnett Branch off of Burning Fork, with a very old Magoffin County home completely destroyed.

Upon Salyersville Fire Department’s arrival, the nearly-100-year-old home was completely engulfed.

According to fire officials, the homeowner came out of a room and noticed another portion of the house was on fire and was able to make it out of the home safely before the fire quickly spread to the rest of the residence. The residence, occupied by Amanda Blackburn and a relative who was not home at the time of the fire, was a total loss and no insurance was held on the home.

The fire department extinguished the fire, which had spread to an adjacent unoccupied mobile home, as well as a gas line that had caught fire and had to be extinguished.

The source of the fire is unknown at press time.
