PAINTSVILLE/SALYERSVILLE – A former Magoffin County schools teacher already facing felony sexual abuse and rape charges in Magoffin County has now been indicted with similar charges in Johnson County.

Anthony Taulbee, 47, of Middle Fork Road, in Salyersville, was indicted by a Johnson County grand jury on November 17, charged with two counts of third-degree rape (Class D felonies) and third-degree sodomy (Class D felony). According to the Johnson County indictment, on or about May 21 through 22, 2018, in Johnson County, Taulbee allegedly unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor.

The indictment states, “being at least 10 years older than [the victim], who was 17 years old at the time of the sexual intercourse, he unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with [the victim], and/or being a person in a position of authority, he engaged in sexual intercourse with [the victim], a minor under 18 years of age with whom he came into contact as a result of that position.”

In 2018, Taulbee was employed by Magoffin County Schools and was a high school criminal justice teacher.

Taulbee was indicted in Magoffin County Circuit Court in July of this year, as well, charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree rape, both Class D felonies. According to the indictment, on or about March 1 through June 1, 2018, Taulbee allegedly subjected another person to sexual contact by forcible compulsion. On or about March 1 through August 12, 2018, he is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with another person less than 18 years old and while he was a person in a position of authority or special trust.

Taulbee was arrested in July, but has since been released on a $20,000 cash bond. A motion hour hearing has been set in his Magoffin County case for December 6 to discuss a possible change in venue.

He also has a hearing scheduled for January 17 in the Johnson County case.

The SI will continue to follow these cases as they proceed in court.
