PIKEVILLE – Magoffin County High School graduate Stephanie Helton signed with the University of Pikeville cross country program in June.
Helton was a four-year member of the Magoffin County High School cross country and track and field teams.
Helton and her team won a region championship and competed at the state meet during the 2018 high school cross country season.
Earlier in the year, Helton placed first in the 100 meter hurdles and second as part of a 4×100 meter relay team in the region meet. Helton helped the Magoffin County track and field team finish as a region runner-up earlier in the year.
Following the performances in the latest region event, Helton competed in the state track and field meet in both hurdles and as a member of a 4×100 relay team.
The University of Pikeville competes in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). In addition to Pikeville, the MSC includes Bethel, Campbellsville, Cumberland (Tenn.), Cumberlands (Ky.), Freed-Hardeman, Georgetown, Life, Lindsey Wilson, Martin Methodist, Shawnee State and Thomas More.
