SANDY HOOK – Magoffin County was limited offensively as homestanding Elliott County, a member of the 16th Region, won 5-1 in a high school softball game on Monday, May 10.
The Hornets slipped into the loss column following back-to-back wins over West Carter and Pike County Central.
Jaden Williams took the loss in the circle for the Hornets. Williams allowed five runs on eight hits while giving up three walks and recording five strikeouts over seven innings.
Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Williams drove in Magoffin County’s only run in the game.
Williams (2-for-3, one RBI), Jaylynn Lafferty (2-for-3), Emilee Bailey (2-for-4) and Holly Handshoe (1-for-3) chipped in at the plate for the Hornets.
Magoffin County and Elliott County met for the first time in the 2021 high school softball season.
The Hornets entered the week with additional regular season games remaining versus Prestonsburg, Floyd Central, Shelby Valley, Betsy Layne, Martin County, Lawrence County, Robertson County, Belfry and Morgan County.
