Lady Hornets edge Phelps in OT, 56-55

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County outlasted 15th Region rival Phelps 56-55 in overtime in a girls’ high school basketball game on Monday, Feb. 13.

Carrying momentum over into the matchup, Magoffin County notched its sixth straight win.

Magoffin County, which improved to 10-18 after posting the win, shot 38.6 percent (six-of-21) from the field. The Lady Hornets made six of 21 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County shot 50 percent (six-of-12) from the free throw line.

Kennedy Williams led a group of three Magoffin County scorers in double figures, netting 17 points.

Delivering a double-double for Magoffin County, Angel Mullis scored 15 points and collected 16 rebounds.

Accompanying Williams and Mullis in double figures, Karah Lafferty netted 10 points for the Lady Hornets.

Barely missing double figures for Magoffin County, Abby Barnett added nine points.

Aiding in Magoffin County’s win, Macy Williams (three points) and Abigail Bradley (two points) contributed offensively as part of a solid attack.

Much-improved Magoffin County dealt Phelps its third straight loss.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Jenkins for a regular season finale on Thursday, Feb. 16. Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Jenkins girls’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
