Litteral paces Hornets in passing, rushing

SALYERSVILLE – Senior quarterback Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County in passing and rushing throughout the 2021 high school football season.

Through the air, Litteral completed 90 passes for 1,721 yards and 16 touchdowns. On the ground, Litteral rushed 112 times for 653 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Litteral displayed his versatility throughout the 2021 prep gridiron campaign, ranking among the top quarterbacks in Class 3A. The senior quarterback was instrumental in Magoffin County registering six wins, compiling a winning record and qualifying for the Class KHSAA 3A Playoffs.

With Litteral under center, Magoffin County scored 294 points in 10 games.

As a team, Magoffin County passed for 1,843 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Hornets rushed 243 times for 1,286 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Finishing as the Hornets’ second-leading rusher, Aden Barnett rushed 24 times for 243 yards and five touchdowns.

Contributing on the ground for Magoffin County, Ben Lafferty rushed 33 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Barnett led the Hornets in receiving, averaging 30.2 yards per catch. A sophomore athlete, Barnett reeled in 25 receptions for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Another productive receiver for the Hornets, Brad Standifer hauled in 24 receptions for 427 yards and four touchdowns.

Behind Standifer in receiving, Grayson Whitaker made 21 receptions for 352 yards and two touchdowns.

Along with the team’s top three receivers, Colin Litteral and Russell Cruz delivered nine receptions and seven receptions, respectively.

Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, compiled a 6-4 record in the 2021 high school football season.
