PAINTSVILLE – Visiting Magoffin County was limited offensively as Paintsville prevailed 62-49 in a 57th District boys’ high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 6.
Paintsville notched its third straight win.
Both team and individual statistics for Paintsville from the 57th District matchup were unavailable at press time.
Magoffin County shot 33.3 percent (14-of-42) from the field.
The Hornets were 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Aden Barnett, one of the top boys’ basketball players in the 15th Region, led the Hornets, scoring 24 points and collecting eight rebounds. Barnett was 12-of-14 from the free throw line. He was the only player from the visiting team to reach double figures in scoring.
In addition to Barnett, Ben Lafferty (seven points), Isaiah Salyer (six points), Grayson Whitaker (five points), Ethan Prewitt (three points), Zane Whitaker (two points) and Caleb Wilson (two points) provided scoring for the Hornets.
Magoffin County is slated to host rival Paintsville for another 57th District boys’ basketball on Friday, Feb. 19.
Both Magoffin County and Paintsville are scheduled to compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament in March.
