Gifted and talented 6th grade students district wide visited Pioneer Village and the Historical Society. They were given a humbling experience – a very thorough tour of each cabin , led by brother and sister, Toddie Preston and Jessica Howard. The students learned where the cabins originated, how they arrived at Pioneer Village, and many stories about some of the original items in the cabins and others that were donated.
The students were in awe to learn about what the past looked and felt like, especially compared to their lives today. Many of them were touched by some of the very heartfelt personal stories from Mr. Toddie Preston about his father.
The students left Pioneer Village with a brand new respect and understanding for the special cabins that have been in our small town for many years. We are grateful for the learning opportunity we were given. We have taken one step towards Preserving our Past for the Future of Magoffin County.
