Primary Election 2024 taking shape

STATEWIDE – With the candidate filing deadline of January 5, the 2024 Primary Election is finally taking shape.

Of course, the presidential race is the big ticket item on this year’s ballot, with President Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D) running for re-election, up against Dean Philips and Marianne Williamson in the primary. On the Republican ticket, Ryan L. Binkley, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki R. Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Former President Donald J. Trump have filed for election.

The position of US Representative of Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District has been held by Congressman Hal Rogers (R), of Somerset, since 1981, and he is running for a 23rd term, up against the following Republicans in the primary: Dana Edwards of Manchester, David E. Kraftchak Jr. of London, and Brandon Monhollen of London.

The other two races affecting Magoffin County voters include incumbents who are running unopposed: State Representative John Blanton (R) and Commonwealth Attorney Todd Martin.

The last day to register to vote in the primary is April 22. Online registrations must be received by 4 p.m. local time; mailed registrations can be postmarked 4/22 and be counted, and registrations returned to the clerk’s office accepted by close of business that day.
