Rescue squad auction yields $24,000 so far

SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Rescue Squad held its annual media auction last week, celebrating bittersweet success as they raised funding imperative for operational costs, but the first auction in the squad’s history without founding member and longtime captain, Carter Conley, who passed away last year due to complications from COVID-19.

Shirley Coffey, Unit 004 and secretary/treasurer for the rescue squad, released the following statement about the 43rd Annual Magoffin County Rescue Squad Media Auction, which was held May 5 through 7:

“This year’s auction was definitely one we won’t forget and mainly because it was the first without our late Captain, Carter Conley 101. The auction is something that Carter took pride in and enjoyed hosting every year to raise money for our nonprofit organization. Without the fundraisers that we have, we cannot continue to do what we love, and that is helping the citizens of Magoffin County. I do believe Carter (101), would have been proud of all the hard work and dedication that were put into this year’s auction. I, Shirley Coffey (004) the Secretary/Treasurer, helped to organize this year’s auction to the best of my capabilities to make sure everything ran as smoothly as possible. Other than technical difficulties here and there, which is bound to happen, I was very pleased with how well everything went. This year’s total so far is approximately $24,000, with our goal being at $30,000. We are all very proud of the outcome, so far. I would like to personally thank on behalf of the Magoffin County Rescue Squad the citizens of Magoffin County who donated, all the businesses who donated, Foothills Communications, Rick Howard’s Cable, Ritt Mortimer and the Salyersville Independent, those that provided lunch the three nights of the auction, and all the members (Probationary/full) that were able to come out and help.”
