Salyersville Christmas celebration slated for Dec. 2

From Salyersville Hometown Christmas

It’s almost time for the Christmas Celebration. All activities will take place on Saturday, December 2nd. The theme this year is “A Walk Down Candy Cane Lane”. Our Grand Marshall will be Ben Gardner, we wanted to recognize him for all of the work he does on Candy Cane Lane. Be sure to visit the Lane and enjoy all of the decorations.

We have several things going on this year:

* A poster contest at all schools in the county. The overall winners will receive a $25 gift card.

* If you love to decorate your home for the Christmas season, we invite you to compete in the decorating contest. Entry forms and participant candy cane yard stakes can be picked up at City Hall starting Monday.

* If cookie decorating is your thing, we are having a cookie contest at the Renaissance Center the day of the parade. Entry forms along with the rules can be picked up at City Hall starting Monday as well.

* The MCHS band will be providing Christmas music downtown before the parade.

* Hot chocolate, apple cider, and cookies will be given away at the Magoffin County Historical Society before and during the parade.

*Hot chocolate will also be given away downtown in a couple of different locations. We appreciate these individuals for providing this.

* New Generation Church will be presenting a “Live Nativity” in City Park across from City Hall. Times will be announced closer to the day or the parade.

* The parade will be at 6:00. Line-up starts at 5:00. Again, the theme is “A Walk Down Candy Cane Lane”. We request that there are no Santas on your floats or walking beside them. Santa and Mrs. Claus will already be riding in his sleigh at the back of the parade. If you plan on being in the parade or if you have any questions, please text or call 794-6561 or 349-4384 or ask any committee member.

* Santa and Mrs. Claus will be giving out presents at the Salyersville Fire Dept after the parade. All Children 12 and under are welcome. Children must be present to receive a toy.

We hope to see a lot of participation this year.
