Thomas Earl Lykins of Salyersville, Kentucky, went to join our Lord Jesus Christ on October 6, 2021. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Earl and Ernestine Arnett Lykins on September 4, 1951. He was seventy years old when he passed.
Tom graduated from Northmont High School in 1969 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University in 1973. He spent several years as a civilian contractor at Wright-Paterson Air Force Base before joining General Motors in Moraine, Ohio. He retired to Kentucky with Nancy, his father Earl, and his sister-in-law Missy after thirty years in the employ.
He married Nancy Jean Lykins (nee Alexander) in 1973 and fathered three children: Matthew Lykins (Emily), Ann Webb (Jim), and Kelly Guerra (Todd). He worked long hours, but managed to reserve time to coach baseball, softball, and soccer as well as lead the local Cub Scout Troop. His wife, children, and his faith were the most important things in his life. Selfless and spiritual (and only a little overbearing about it), he was unwilling to suffer fools but slow to anger, and always quick to forgive and to show his delight at his children and, eventually his grandchildren: Rori, Isabel, Spencer, David, Abigail, Elijah, Isaac, Sarah, Ben, Maya, T.J., Oscar, and Liam.
Even during his protracted illness, Tom Lykins showed everyone he met how to face challenges with Christian grace. His example will live on, in his words and acts–always decent, never petty or vindictive, he will be missed and mourned, the burden eased by his rock-solid belief that he has moved on to a better place.
