WALNUT FESTIVAL NEXT WEEKEND

HALF MOUNTAIN – The fourth-annual Walnut Festival is scheduled for October 15 at the Half Mountain Battlefield Park, across from South Magoffin Elementary.

The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, with admission free, plenty of entertainment, kids’ activities, a car show, cornhole tournament, and many local vendors and amazing concessions signed up for the day.

The event, sponsored by the Royalton Community Council, is set to be bigger than ever, with three award-winning showcase bands scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Black Powder Express, The Evans Brothers and Don Rigsby will perform during the main time slot, with these local bands playing from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Erin Grace Rudd, 2 Lanes Home, Cecil Butcher and Ky Mtn Boys, Eddie Prater & Royalton Ramblers, Katie Fitch, Mandy Sizemore, Eddie Jenkins & Midnight Promise, Dewey Moore, Terry Miller Band and Troy Carlous and band.

Kids’ activities will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include face painting, pumpkin painting, the new playground, a petting zoo and craft making.

The Cruise-In Car Show is slated for 12 to 4 p.m., with three trophies going to people’s choice winners in the categories:1970s and older, 1980 and newer, and Best in Show. Dash plates will be presented to each owner for participating, as well as a chance to win a wonderful door prize.

The cornhole tournament will run from 12 to 5 p.m., with a $20 registration fee per team and a grand prize winner receiving a trophy and $100.

The festival will be held at the Half Mountain Park, just south of Royalton and across from the South Magoffin Elementary, at 124 Half Mountain Rd., Salyersville, KY 41465.
