PIKEVILLE — The UPIKE swimming program opened its 2024-25 season with a home meet versus visiting Midway University on Saturday, Oct. 5.
RJ Goins, Colin Ryder Slone, Jacob Rubado and Magoffin County High School graduate Zane Whitaker earned four team points for the Bears in the men’s 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.21.
Joseph Park took first in the men’s open 1,000-yard freestyle and third in the 200-freestyle.
In the 100-backstroke, Bryce Barton took second with a time of 1:04.58.
Delivering another solid individual performance, Jacob Rubado finished second in the 100-breaststroke.
UPIKE collected 12 team points in the 50-freestyle after Whitaker finished first and Ryder Slone took third. Whitaker also took third in the 100-freestyle. Bryce Barton finished first in the 200-backstroke with a time 2:27.69 and scored nine team points for the Bears. Goins added another 18 team points with a top finish in the 500-freestyle and open 200 individual medley.
On the women’s side, Magoffin County High School graduate Daylin Patrick finished second in the 200-freestyle and third in the 100-backstroke. Madelyn Smith collected three team points after taking third in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:20.49. Smith also finished second in the 200-breaststroke and second in the 500-freestyle.
The men’s team amassed 80 team points while the women’s team gained 22 points for a grand total of 102 combined points between the two teams.
The UPIKE swimming program is scheduled to host West Virginia Tech for another home meet at noon on Saturday, Oct. 19.
