The Miss Magoffin County Scholarship Pageant was held Friday night, September 1, 2023, at the Pioneer Village Cabin Complex in downtown Salyersville, with Lauryn Whitaker crowned Miss Magoffin County 2023-2024.
The pageant was hosted by Jimmy Caldwell, WKYT weatherman and native of Salyersville. The theme for the pageant was “Taylor Swift Eras” and featured an awesome show.
Local talent was on hand to entertain between the five competitions, which included Private Interview, On-Stage Conversation, Health & Fitness, Talent, and Evening Gown.
Lauryn Jane Whitaker, the 19-year-old daughter of Melissa and Kevin Whitaker of Salyersville. A Sophomore at the University of Kentucky, she is majoring in Business, with a minor in Dance. Her career plans include opening her own dance studio. For her talent, Lauryn performed a tap dance routine to “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain. Her Community Service Initiative is “ABCDE – Aspire to Build Confidence with Dance in Elementary Schools.”
As the new Miss Magoffin County, Whitaker is receiving a scholarship, official sash, flowers from, official Miss America local crown, and will advance to the Miss Kentucky Pageant held in Bowling Green, KY in June of 2024.
