FLEEING FROM POLICE ON A MOPED

CONNELLEY FARM – Two were arrested Sunday night after reportedly attempting to evade police on a moped.

According to the arrest citations, Magoffin County Sheriff Deputies C. Risner and N. Watson were on patrol on KY Rt. 30 when they reportedly observed a moped with two occupants traveling eastbound with a dim headlight and no sign of any lights on the back end of the vehicle.

The deputies turned immediately an attempted to catch up to them, but the moped made an abrupt left turn into a driveway of a residence on the Connelley Farm area of Rt. 30, according to the police report.

Police followed the moped into the driveway seconds later, and then observed the passenger jump off the moped and run as hard as she could toward the Licking River, according to the citation.

The deputies were able to get the moped to stop and removed the operator, identified as Timothy Chambers, 35, of Zoe, KY, off the moped, taking him into custody and restraining him. Even after in custody, Chambers allegedly continued to attempt to remove items form his right front pocket and resisted to hive his arm to be placed in handcuffs. Police found the items he tried to discard in the yard, included a methamphetamine pipe, according to the arrest citation.

Deputy E. Salyer and Salyersville Police Department Officer D. Watson also came to the location to assist in the search and apprehension of the passenger, identified as Hayley Brotherton, 24, of West Liberty.

Chambers was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle); operating a motor vehicle under the influence off a substance (first), no operators/moped license, resisting arrest, buying or possessing drug paraphernalia; menacing and criminal littering.

Brotherton was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot) and first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle.

Both were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where they remain at press time.
