The Morehead State University Board of Regents reelected Dr. Sanford Holbrook as chairman.
The Board of Regents, the governing body responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and policies of MSU, recently conducted its annual election to appoint officers for the upcoming term.
“It is an honor to serve as chair of the Board of Regents at my alma mater,” said Holbrook.
“MSU’s mission to serve our communities to improve the quality of life and transform lives through education is one I care deeply about, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back in this role. I look forward to working with university leadership to build on the university’s momentum and position MSU for continued success.”
Since graduating from MSU in 1997, Holbrook has served in a number of roles at the university, including vice chair of the Board of Regents, and chair of the Audit and Executive Committees.
Dr. Holbrook has a strong background in education, having previously held positions such as assistant superintendent, ATC & CTE principal, finance and federal programs director, and agriculture teacher. Dr. Holbrook just recently retired as Superintendent of Robertson County School District after 11 years. Before that Dr. Holbrook served as several roles in the Magoffin County School District. He graduated from Magoffin County High School in 1992.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Buffalo Trace ADD Outstanding Community Leadership Award and named the KEDC Superintendent of the Year in 2021. His involvement in educational leadership extends to serving as Chairman of the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation’s (KEDC) Board of Directors and as secretary of the Kentucky Interlocal School Transportation Association (KISTA).
He holds bachelor’s, two master’s, and doctoral degrees from Morehead State University and resides in Mt. Olivet, KY with his wife Stephanie. His current term concludes in 2030.
