According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputies W. Lafferty and N. Watson were patrolling KY Rt. 378 on Tuesday, March 31, when they reportedly observed a driver’s side taillight was damaged and not functioning properly, leading to them initiating a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jackie E. Bailey , 44, of Harold, KY, police noticed in their report Bailey appeared nervous and was unable to provide straightforward answers to basic questions.
Both Bailey and the female passenger were asked to exit the vehicle. Bailey was asked if there were anything inside the vehicle that should not be, which he replied there was not.
After police were granted consent to search the vehicle, they found a black magnetic box under the driver’s side front seat. Inside the box were several glass pipes commonly used for methamphetamine, rolling papers, a set of digital scales, multiple individual baggies consistent with narcotics distribution, and a clear baggie containing approximately 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, according to the police report.
Bailey was taken into custody without incident and he was transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, facing the following charges: trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, first offense, greater than or equal to 2 grams methamphetamine); buying or possessing drug paraphernalia; and improper equipment.
