SALYERSVILLE – A Johnson County man was arrested in Salyersville Saturday night on charges related to trafficking methamphetamine.
Magoffin County Sheriff Department Officer J. Caudill stated in the arrest citation that he was observing traffic on Parkway Drive on April 3 and David M. Tackett, 33, of Whitehouse, Kentucky, drove by in a white Nissan truck with an extremely loud exhaust. Caudill reported he had run Tackett’s ID before and knew he did not have an active driver’s license, so he performed a traffic stop.
While police were interviewing Tackett, officers noticed a needle laying in plain view on the dash of the pickup.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Tracy Salyer conducted a field sobriety test and advised Caudill that Tackett had failed all tests that were given to him.
Upon searching the vehicle, police found a large, clear bag in the center console, with 5.3 ounces of a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. Next to the bag was a pistol that was chambered with a full magazine.
Blood was taken at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center and implied consent was read. Police noted that they found $6,575 cash in a blue bank bag.
Tackett was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, currently charged with the following: inadequate silencer, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance (first degree, second offense, methamphetamine), and trafficking in a controlled substance (first degree, second or greater offense, greater than or equal to 2 grams methamphetamine).
No court date has been scheduled in this felony case.
