SALYERSVILLE – A Salyersville woman wanted out of Fayette County was picked up in Magoffin on Monday night.
On May 29, Katelyn Lee Allen, 31 years old, of Salyersville, was arrested by Magoffin County Sheriff Department’s D. Watson on an active warrant from Fayette County, according to the citation.
According to the arrest warrant, Allen was wanted on charges related to an alleged theft and forgery dating back to June 2, 2022.
Lexington Police Department’s Ryan M. Wells wrote in the complaint included in the warrant that on June 2, 2022, Officer Webster was dispatched to Embassy Suites on Newtown Pike in reference to a theft report. The victim had reported to police that approximately $1,000 worth of items were stolen from his vehicle overnight, with the items including a fire department-issued radio, as well as his checkbook. The victim also told police a check had been written and cashed for $200 at the Commonwealth Credit Union on Sir Barton Road, also in Lexington.
Police found a cell phone in the car that did not belong to the victim. During further investigation, on June 29, 2022, Detective Joe Holland went to the Shelby County Detention Center and interviewed the owner of the phone, who was already in custody. He stated he was present that night when the vehicle was broken into, but did not enter any vehicles, identifying the suspect as “Ms. Dyer.” He also told police he was with “Ms. Dyer” when she wrote one of the checks and she cashed it to herself, according to the arrest warrant.
Commonwealth Credit Union provided police a copy of the check, made out to Katelyn Allen, as well as the driver’s license of the female who cashed the check, which also came back to Katelyn Allen (Dyer).
Allen is currently being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, facing the felony charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition, contents from vehicle ($1,000<$10,000), and second-degree forgery.
