Magoffin County Judge/Executive Matthew Wireman commended Stephens, noting he’s 92 years old and still attends the fire department meetings and is an active community member.
Similarly, the court approved a resolution to honor Hassel Gullett, a veteran, former magistrate and electrical inspector who passed away last year.
The two above resolutions will be printed in full in next week’s paper.
The fiscal court approved a participation agreement and resolution for the County Road Aid Cooperative Program, which they do every year with the state to receive road funding throughout the year.
They approved the Kentucky Transportation Department District 10 2025-2026 Rural Secondary recommendations, allowing Magoffin to receive $20,258 in flex funding for roads. Roads included on the state’s plan for resurfacing include Mash Fork and Phipps Fork.

They also accepted a 2017 Ford Super Duty F-250 from the Magoffin County Water District, which the water board had surplussed the vehicle and agreed to transfer it to the county, with Judge Wireman explaining it is a good truck.
Judge Wireman updated the court on the county-wide cleanup, going on now, noting that weather and staffing have slowed them down, but they are aware of some more needing picked up in District 3.
At Ramey Park, he said it is a joint venture between the city and county, and the city has requested the FEMA assistance for cleaning up the flooding in the park, and the city will be handling that clean up.
He also noted that the intention is for Hinkle to start resurfacing roads on the schedule for last year that were not worked on, as well as the ones on the schedule for this year, with Judge Wireman noting he hopes it goes better than last year.
