SALYERSVILLE – A suspect is still at large after a police chase through local neighborhoods, ending near the park.

Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy N. Watson attempted to conduct a traffic stop at approximately 2:40 a.m. at the lower end of Salyersville on Sunday, April 13. The driver pulled in near the old water plant, circled behind a residence, the passenger jumped out and bailed, fleeing with something bulky in his hands.

Identifying features of the vehicle include a foreign-made sedan, with some sort of a wildcat on the rear driver’s side window, and a rectangle sticker on the back windshield. It also had a faulty or custom muffler.

When the subject fled from a vehicle, he had something in his hands, but dropped a knife that was collected by law enforcement. The suspect can be seen on surveillance cameras residents had in that area making a loop around the home, went toward the river. Police say he swam through the Licking River, came out at the Ramey Memorial Park and was tracked and onto the far side Kentucky Street in Dixie, when police lost track of him. On other surveillance video police obtained, the vehicle reportedly then fled to the Coal Branch area afterward, because the driver was able to flee the scene as well since police backup had not arrived, yet, and Officer Watson was chasing the passenger that fled.

Police are asking for any information available regarding the driver, the passenger or the vehicle’s owner, asking people to check their outside cameras in those areas and contact the Magoffin County Sheriff Department at 606-349-2914 with any information.
