Barnett scores 32 points, leads Hornets over Floyd Central

SALYERSVILLE – Sophomore guard Aden Barnett poured in a game-high 32 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Magoffin County over visiting Floyd Central 89-50 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Familiar 15th Region rivals, Magoffin County and Floyd Central met for a non-district boys’ basketball game.

The Hornets thrived offensively throughout the matchup.

Magoffin County shot 60.3 percent (35-of-58) from the field. The Hornets were 11-of-17 from 3-point range, shooting beyond the arc.

Magoffin County shot 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the free throw line.

The Hornets outrebounded Floyd Central 35-29.

Kaden Bowling scored 15 points and Ben Lafferty netted 10 points in Magoffin County’s convincing victory.

Lafferty led Magoffin County on the backboards, hauling in seven rebounds.

Finishing one shot short of reaching double figures in scoring for the Hornets, Isaiah Salyer added eight points.

Magoffin County featured 11 different scorers, including Ethan Prewitt (six points), Caleb Wilson (six points), Zane Whitaker (four points), Grant Rudd (three points), Case Adkins (two points), Patrick Damron (two points) and Grayson Whitaker (one point).

In addition, Andrew Mortimer, Brennan Hanson, Ian Prewitt and Spencer Howard logged minutes for the Hornets.

Floyd Central shot 30. percent (16-of-52) from the field. The Jaguars were 2-of-15 from 3-point range.

Floyd Central shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the free throw line.

Braden Moore scored 15 points for the Jaguars while teammate Ronnie Samons netted 14 points.

The additional scorers for Floyd Central were Brant Potter (seven points), Dalton Younce (seven points), Joshua Martin (four points) and Tanner Hall (three points).
