SALYERSVILLE – Sophomore guard Aden Barnett connected on a game-winning shot to lift Magoffin County over visiting Martin County 66-64 in 57th District boys’ basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 13.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the 57th District.
Reigning 15th Region champion Martin County dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the district with the loss.
The Hornets returned to the win column following three consecutive losses to Johnson Central, Paintsville and Shelby Valley. Magoffin County’s schedule has featured games versus multiple 15th Region title contenders.
Individual statistics from the Magoffin County-Martin County boys’ basketball game were unavailable at press time.
The Hornets are scheduled to visit Martin County for another 57th District matchup on Monday, Feb. 22. Martin County owns wins over Hazard, Paintsville and Knott County Central, among others.
Both Magoffin County and Martin County are scheduled to compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament in March.
