Barnett’s triple-double leads Hornets past East Ridge, 88-68

SALYERSVILLE — Junior guard Aden Barnett recorded a triple-double to lead Magoffin County over 15th Region counterpart East Ridge 88-68 in a non-district boys’ high school basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Leading Magoffin County to the win, Barnett delivered 27 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.

Magoffin County shot 54.4 percent (37-of-68) from the field in the win. The Hornets made 10 of 24 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Magoffin County shot 57.1 percent (four-of-seven) from the free throw line.

The Hornets dominated inside, outrebounding East Ridge 37-23.

Barnett led a group of four Magoffin County scorers in double figures. Joining Barnett in double figures for the Hornets, Grayson Whitaker scored 20 points, Ben Lafferty netted 15 points and Zane Whitaker tallied 10 points.

Finishing near double figures for the Hornets, Ethan Salyer added eight points.

Contributing to the 20-point win, Walker Russell (three points), Noah Sammons (three points) and Brennan Hansen (two points) accounted for Magoffin County’s other scoring.

East Ridge shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field in the boys’ high school basketball game. The Warriors connected on seven of 25 three-point attempts.

East Ridge managed to shoot 87.5 percent (seven-of-eight) from the free throw line.
Braxton Stanley scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Warriors.

Along with Stanley reaching double figures for East Ridge, Brad Howell netted 11 points.

Eight different players scored for East Ridge in the non-district matchup. Isaiah Adkins (eight points), Jackson Keene (seven points), Zack Mason (six points), Brady Kendrick (three points), Carter Damron (three points) and Keaton Puckett (two points) followed Howell in the Warriors’ scoring column.

Magoffin County and East Ridge met for the first time in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.
