Cougars to visit Magoffin

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is set to host 14th Region member Letcher County Central for a boys’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Dec. 16.

The Hornets and Cougars hail from neighboring regions.

Magoffin County held on to defeat Letcher County Central 57-52 when the two teams met during the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.

The Hornets and Cougars have similar overall records.

Magoffin County is 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the 57th District. The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, have notched wins over Pike County Central and Morgan County. Magoffin County has dropped games to Floyd Central, 57th District rival Martin County and Lawrence County.

Letcher County Central is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the 53rd District. The Cougars have claimed wins over Knott County Central and Prestonsburg. Letcher County Central has dropped games to Newport Central Catholic and Cordia.

The Hornets will be looking to return to the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Martin County and Lawrence County.
