Four Hornets average double figures in scoring

SALYERSVILLE — Four players averaged double figures in scoring for Magoffin County during the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.

Aden Barnett led Magoffin County in both scoring and rebounding. Barnett, a junior guard, averaged 21.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Hornets.

Following Barnett, senior center Ben Lafferty averaged 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Magoffin County during the 2022-23 season.

Zane Whitaker, a junior forward, averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Hornets during the latest boys’ high school basketball campaign.

Grayson Whitaker, another junior guard, averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds game for Scott Castle-coached Magoffin County, which captured the Kentucky 2A, Section 8 championship during the 2022-23 season.

Additional key contributors for Magoffin County in the 2022-23 season included Ethan Salyer, Walker Russell, Brennan Hansen, Reed Meadows and Noah Sammons.

Magoffin County showed improvement throughout the 2022-23 season.

Following a loss to Paintsville in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2022-23 season 16-11.

Magoffin County is slated to return four of its five starters for the 2023-24 season.
