Hornets compete in Mountain Schoolboy Classic

BELFRY — Magoffin County competed in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Belfry Friday, Dec. 27-Saturday, Dec. 28.

The Hornets met a pair of 15th Region rivals during the Mountain Schoolboy Classic.

Prestonsburg held on to edge Magoffin County 74-73 in the opening round of the Mountain Schoolboy Classic on Friday, Dec. 27.

Dealing Magoffin County its second straight loss, Belfry defeated the Hornets 77-66 on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Following a lengthy layoff, Magoffin County was set to meet Pike County Central in the opening round of the 2A, Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Allen Central’s J.E. Campbell Arena in Floyd County on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Results from the Magoffin County-Pike County Central game were unavailable at press time and will appear in next week’s edition.

The Hornets have additional regular season games remaining versus Belfry, Pike County Central, Phelps, West Carter, Johnson Central, Paintsville, Lawrence County, Martin County, East Ridge, Estill County, Menifee County, Morgan County and Betsy Layne.
