SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County edged Pike County Central 3-2 in a late-season high school baseball game on Monday, May 11.
The Hornets improved to 10-11 after notching the win.
Magoffin County finished strong, pushing across one run during each of the last two innings. The Hornets plated the game-winning run during the bottom half of the seventh inning, winning through a walk-off.
Evan Reed started on the mound for the Hornets. Reed pitched five innings and recorded six strikeouts.
Following Reed, Hunter Arnett and Aiden Cartty each pitched in relief for the Hornets. Carty struck out one Pike County Central batter.
Pike County Central sent two different pitchers out to the mound during the late-season matchup.
Magoffin County scored three runs on seven hits. Carty (one hit), Brayden Bailey (three hits, two RBIs), Michael Trusty (one hit), Aden Montgomery (one hit), Chance Risner (one hit) and Isaac Howard (one RBI) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense.
The Hornets, under the direction of Coach Gabe Burchell, have shown improvement throughout the 2026 high school baseball season. Much-improved Magoffin County is poised to compete in the 57th District Baseball Tournament.
Magoffin County posted its second win over Pike County Central in the 2026 high school baseball season. The Hornets defeated the Hawks 8-3 in an early-season game on Monday, March 23.
