SALYERSVILLE — Returning to the win column following three straight losses, Magoffin County defeated visiting Floyd Central 52-45 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
The Hornets and Jaguars are 15th Region rivals from neighboring districts.
Magoffin County notched its 12th win in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season.
The Hornets bounced back to win after dropping games to Johnson Central, Belfry and East Ridge.
Magoffin County shot 36.7 percent (18-of-49) from the field in the victory. The Hornets connected on three of 14 attempts from three-point range.
Perfect in a key area, Magoffin County shot 100 percent (13-of-13) from the free throw line.
Aden Barnett scored a game-high 33 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Magoffin County to the win.
Following Barnett’s leading performance for the Hornets, Zane Whitaker netted 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Rounding out Magoffin County’s individual scoring, Walker Russell and Ben Lafferty added six points and two points, respectively.
