Hornets defeat Lee County on neutral court

HAZARD – Aden Barnett scored 19 points to lead Magoffin Couty over Lee County 61-40 in the Big Lou Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Perry County Central High School on Saturday, Jan. 15.

After recording the win, Magoffin County evened its record to 8-8.

The Hornets halted a three-game losing skid.

Magoffin County shot 40 percent (22-of-50) from the field in the victory. The Hornets shot 33.3 percent (two-of-six) from three-point range.

Magoffin County shot 75 percent (15-of-20) from the free throw line.

The Hornets outrebounded the Bobcats 27-23.

Following Barnett in scoring for the Hornets, Walker Russell netted 12 points.

Zane Whitaker delivered a double-double for Magoffin County, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

In addition to the three players in double figures, Magoffin County received scoring from Ben Lafferty (five points), Reed Meadows (five points), Case Adkins (four points), Brennan Hansen (three points) and Ethan Salyer (two points).

Lee County shot 33.3 percent (16-of-48) from the field. The Bobcats connected on seven of 20 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc.

Lee County converted only one of six free throw attempts.

Zach Watterson scored 14 points and hauled down six rebounds to lead the Bobcats.

Watterson was the only Lee County player to reach double figures in scoring.

The additional scorers for Lee County included James Moore (eight points), Bryce Angel (six points), Dylan Nobe (five points), Jack Fox (five points) and Alex Wolf (two points).

Teams from multiple regions participated in the Big Lou Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
