Hornets defeat Letcher County, advance to second round

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat visiting Letcher County 30-6 in the opening round of the Kentucky Middle School Athletic Association 6th Grade State Playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Hornets took control early in the first round game and controlled the postseason matchup.

In other opening round games played in the Kentucky Middle School Football Association 6th Grade State Playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 15 it was Johnson County 34, Union Raiders 22; South Laurel 32, Harlan County 0; Rockcastle County 20, South Oldham 14; Somerset Meece 42, Perry County 34 and Pike Central 26, Breathitt County 0.

The Hornets move on to meet Betsy Layne in the second round of the Kentucky Middle School Athletic Association 6th Grade Playoffs. Betsy Layne pulled away to beat Belfry 32-6 in another opening round game.

Magoffin County claimed a win over Betsy Layne during the regular season.

The Hornets are slated to visit Betsy Layne on Thursday, Oct. 20. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Betsy Layne game is set for 6 p.m.
