SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County was limited offensively as visiting Paintsville prevailed 6-1 in the opening game of a 57th District baseball series on Tuesday, April 28.
Paintsville scored first and never trailed. The Tigers plated the first run in the 57th District game during the top half of the fourth inning.
Extending its lead, Paintsville erupted for four runs during the top half of the fifth frame.
With Paintsville leading 5-0, Magoffin County scored its lone run during the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Paintsville added an insurance run during the top half of the seventh frame to move ahead 6-1.
Anderson Laufer pitched for Paintsville and earned the win on the mound. Lauffer recorded 14 strikeouts.
Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and took the loss. Howard pitched six innings and posted five strikeouts.
Following Howard, Evan Reed pitched one inning in relief for the Hornets. Reed struck out one Paintsville batter.
Paintsville scored six runs on seven hits. Lauffer (two hits), Brody Howell (two hits, one RBI), Dixon Kincheloe (one hit, two RBIs), Colton Short (one hit, one RBI), Luke Stratton (one hit) and Kruz Howell (one RBI) each made an impact at the plate in Paintsville’s win. Both Kincheloe and Short doubled.
Magoffin County plated one run on three hits. Brayden Carroll (one hit, one RBI), Brayden Bailey (one hit) and Chance Risner (one hit) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense. Supplying an extra-base hit, Bailey doubled.
Magoffin County was set to visit Paintsville for the final game in the two teams’ annual 57th District series on Wednesday, April 29.
