PIKEVILLE — Magoffin County senior pitcher Lucas Litteral recorded a dozen strikeouts, but it wasn’t enough as Floyd Central pushed across a pair of runs to win 2-0 in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic at Pikeville High School on Monday, March 14.
Floyd Central pitchers Dylan Mosley and Kolten Crum combined to pitch a shutout.
Mosley started on the mound for Floyd Central and claimed the win. Finishing out the game on the mound for the Jaguars, Crum claimed the save.
Mosley pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while holding Magoffin County registering a career-high 10 strikeouts. Limiting Magoffin County batters, Mosley recorded five consecutive strikeouts from the first-second innings.
Working out of a relief role, Crum held recorded four strikeouts over two innings. Crum didn’t allow any hits while giving up one walk as he combined with Mosley to record the shutout.
Offensively, junior Max Martin finished 1-for-3 and drove in both of Floyd Central’s runs.
Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Mosley went 2-for-2 with a double.
Litteral allowed two runs on four hits and suffered the loss.
Litteral, who recorded 12 strikeouts, turned in a solid performance on the mound.
Each team logged four hits.
Sophomore Colin Litteral led Magoffin County at the plate, finishing 2-for-4.
Contributing to the Hornets’ offensive attack in the season opener, Ethan Salyer and Aaron Ward added one hit apiece.
Magoffin County was visiting Elliott County on Wednesday, March 16. Results from the Magoffin County-Elliott County baseball game were unavailable at press time.
