Hornets set to take court for scrimmage

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to take the court for a scrimmage versus 15th Region rival Prestonsburg on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

The Hornets and Blackcats are due to meet in the Betsy Layne-hosted Junior Newsome Panorama.

The tip time for the Magoffin County-Prestonsburg scrimmage is 4:30 p.m. at Junior Newsome Arena.

Under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County is ranked fourth in the Preseason 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Poll.

Heading into the 2022-23 season, Magoffin County is the top-ranked 57th District boys’ basketball team.

Prestonsburg is ranked 10th in the preseason region poll.

First-year head coach Chase Parsley is preparing to guide the Blackcats.

Following a loss to former 15th Region champion Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County concluded the 2021-22 season 12-16.

Several experienced players have returned for longtime 57th District member Magoffin County. The Hornets opened preseason practice in mid-October.

Magoffin County is scheduled to open its 2022-23 season versus defending 14th Region champion Perry County Central in the DJ Begley Classic on Saturday, Dec. 3.
