Hornets sweep Cardinals in 57th District series

INEZ— Magoffin County swept Martin County in the two high school baseball teams’ annual 57th District series.
The Hornets plated 13 runs in back-to-back games.
Both Magoffin County and Martin County will compete in the 57th District Baseball Tournament in less than one month.
Magoffin County 13, Martin County 9 (8 innings): Magoffin County outlasted host Martin County 13-9 in eight innings in Inez on Tuesday, April 21.
Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and earned the win. Howard pitched two innings and recorded four strikeouts.
Aiding Magoffin County on the mound, Gavin Arnett, Parker Bowling and Hunter Arnett each made relief appearances. Arnett pitched three innings, recorded six strikeouts and claimed the save.
Dylan Hale started on the mound for Martin County and suffered the loss. Hale pitched three innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Following Hale, Caige Presley pitched five innings in relief for the Cardinals. Presley recorded five strikeouts.
Magoffin County scored 13 runs on 10 hits. Howard (two hits), Hunter Arnett (one hit), Brayden Bailey (two hits, three RBIs), Evan Reed (two hits, three RBIs), Chance Risner (two hits, two RBIs), Mason Pecker (one hit) and Aiden Carty (one hit) delivered at the plate for visiting Magoffin County. As part of a diverse offensive attack, Howard, Carty and Peck each doubled.
Martin County plated nine runs on only four hits. Presley (one RBI), Aidan Mann (one hit, one RBI), Noah Bowens (one hit, one RBI), Dylan Spence (one hit), Hunter Moore (one hit) and Gunner Broaddus (one RBI) accounted for Martin County’s offense.
Magoffin County 13, Martin County 3 (6 innings): Magoffin County pulled away to defeat visiting Martin County 13-3 in six innings in a 57th District baseball game on Monday, April 20.
Michael Trusty pitched a complete game for Magoffin County and earned the win on the mound. Trusty thrived defensively, recording 14 strikeouts.
Skyler Green pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Martin County and suffered the loss on the mound. Green tallied four strikeouts.
Aidan Mann started on the mound for Martin County and pitched two innings. Mann posted three strikeouts.
Magoffin County scored 14 runs on 13 hits. Trusty (one hit, one RBI), Aiden Carty (three hits, four RBIs), Isaac Howard (three hits, three RBIs), Chance Risner (two hits, two RBIs), Evan Reed (two hits, one RBI), Brayden Carroll (one hit), Aden Montgomery (one hit) and Mason Peck (one hit) each made an impact at the plate in Magoffin County’s win. Carty (two doubles), Howard (one double) and Reed (one double) were responsible for Magoffin County’s extra-base hits.
Caige Presley (three hits, one RBI) and Hunter Moore (one hit) combined to pace Martin County offensively. Presley doubled and tripled.
