SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to host rival Morgan County for a regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 29.
The Hornets are 5-3. Magoffin County has notched wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue, Floyd Central and Pike County Central. The Hornets have dropped games to Lawrence County, Belfry and Clay County.
Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County (Class 3A, District 8) has managed to outscore its first eight opponents in the 2021 high school football season 260-252.
Magoffin County has completed 78 passes for 1,679 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Hornets have rushed 195 times for 1100 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The Cougars are 4-5. Morgan County has claimed wins over Seneca, Jackson County, Knott County Central and Leslie County. The Cougars have dropped games to Betsy Layne, Paris and Breathitt County in addition to absorbing two losses due to COVID cancelations.
Opponents have outscored the Cougars 211-166.
However, Morgan County in producing on the ground. Morgan County has rushed 305 times for 2,027 yards and 2 touchdowns in seven games.
The Hornets and Cougars did not meet during the 2020 high school football season.
