SALYERSVILLE — Fresh off its second win in the 2026 high school football season, Magoffin County is set to host Winfield (W.Va.) on Friday, Sept. 18.
The Hornets and Generals met for the first time in the 2025 high school football season. Winfield shut out Magoffin County 43-0 on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025.
Magoffin County is 2-2. The Hornets have notched wins over Floyd Central and West Carter.
Magoffin County has suffered losses to Rowan County and Perry County Central, a pair of much-improved high school football teams.
The Hornets outlasted host West Carter 20-14 for their second win in the 2026 high school football season on Friday, Sept. 11. Magoffin County has won two of its last three games.
Winfield is 0-2. The Generals have dropped games to perennial West Virginia title contenders Herbert Hoover and South Charleston.
For the second straight year, Winfield is the lone out-of-state opponent on Magoffin County’s schedule.
Magoffin County has additional games scheduled versus Estill County, Powell County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County. The Hornets compete in Class 3A, District 8.
Nathan Perkins is in his first season as the Hornets’ head coach.
The Magoffin County-Winfield game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
