Hornets to meet Boyd County in 15th Region Challenge

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to meet Boyd County in the 15th Region Challenge at Johnson Central High School on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Boyd County boys’ basketball scrimmage is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Magoffin County and Boyd County aren’t scheduled to meet during the upcoming boys’ high school basketball regular season.

The 15th Region Challenge will be comprised of eight high school basketball games, seven of which will feature boys’ teams. Four different regions will be represented in the preseason high school basketball event.

Showing improvement, Magoffin County compiled a 16-11 record in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season. The Hornets lost in overtime to Paintsville in the semifinals of 2023-24 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Perennial title contender Boyd County exited the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season 27-6. The Lions claimed the 64th District championship and finished runner-up in the 16th Region during the previous prep hoops campaign.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Wolfe County for a 2023-24 season opener on Thursday, Nov. 30.
